Depression can affect every part of daily life, especially when standard treatments have not provided enough improvement. At Revitalizing Therapies, we offer NeuroStar TMS Therapy for adults with treatment-resistant depression.
TMS, or transcranial magnetic stimulation, is an FDA-cleared, noninvasive treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate targeted areas of the brain. The National Institute of Mental Health describes rTMS as a noninvasive brain stimulation therapy that uses repeated magnetic pulses and is FDA-cleared for treatment-resistant depression (National Institute of Mental Health, n.d.).
Our team is here to help you understand your options with clear communication, compassion, and care tailored to your needs.
TMS is a device-based treatment for depression. During treatment, a NeuroStar device delivers focused magnetic pulses to areas of the brain involved in mood regulation.
TMS is:
For some patients with treatment-resistant depression, TMS may be an option when medication alone has not provided enough improvement. A multisite randomized controlled trial found that active TMS was effective in treating major depression compared with sham treatment, with minimal side effects reported (O’Reardon et al., 2007).
Revitalizing Therapies uses NeuroStar TMS technology as part of our advanced mental health treatment options. NeuroStar’s adult indication includes treatment of depressive episodes in adults with major depressive disorder who did not achieve satisfactory improvement from previous antidepressant medication treatment in the current episode (Neuronetics, 2023).
Your care begins with a consultation so our team can learn more about your symptoms, treatment history, and goals. From there, we can help determine whether TMS may be appropriate for your needs.
Revitalizing Therapies also provides psychiatry and counseling, medication management, ketamine therapy, and SPRAVATO® treatment for appropriate patients.
TMS may be considered for adults with treatment-resistant depression who have not experienced enough improvement from standard medication-based treatment.
TMS may be a fit for patients who:
TMS is not right for everyone. A consultation helps determine whether this treatment may be appropriate based on your health history, diagnosis, previous treatments, and safety considerations.
TMS has been studied in both controlled research settings and real-world clinical practice. In a 42-site observational study of patients with major depressive disorder who had persistent symptoms despite antidepressant treatment, researchers reported that TMS produced outcomes in clinical practice that were similar to outcomes seen in research populations (Carpenter et al., 2012).
Longer-term research has also evaluated durability after acute TMS treatment. In a 12-month follow-up study, researchers found that acute benefit from TMS showed statistically and clinically meaningful durability over one year, with continuation medication and access to retreatment when symptoms returned (Dunner et al., 2014).
A large NeuroStar Clinical Outcomes Registry study also examined patient-rated and clinician-rated outcomes in routine clinical practice for major depressive disorder (Sackeim et al., 2020). As with any mental health treatment, individual results vary, and treatment should be guided by a clinical evaluation.

Revitalizing Therapies offers several advanced treatment options for people living with treatment-resistant mental health conditions. TMS is different from medication, ketamine therapy, and SPRAVATO®. Each treatment works differently, and the right option depends on your diagnosis, treatment history, goals, and clinical evaluation.
Patients exploring TMS may also want to review Revitalizing Therapies’ information on depression treatment and conditions treated to better understand the clinic’s broader approach to care.
Our team takes time to understand the full picture before recommending next steps.
TMS treatment takes place in the office. During treatment, you remain awake and seated while the NeuroStar device delivers targeted magnetic pulses.
TMS does not require anesthesia. It does not involve sedation. The Clinical TMS Society explains that TMS is performed while patients are awake and does not require anesthesia (Clinical TMS Society, n.d.).
Before beginning care, the Revitalizing Therapies team will review your health history, answer questions, and explain what to expect.
TMS is noninvasive and does not involve systemic medication. Because treatment uses magnetic pulses, your provider will review your medical history carefully before determining whether TMS is appropriate.
You should tell the clinical team about any implanted devices, metal near the head, seizure history, or other medical concerns before treatment begins.
The most common side effects of TMS include discomfort at the treatment site and mild headache after sessions, according to the Clinical TMS Society (Clinical TMS Society, n.d.).
The most appropriate treatment plan depends on your individual needs and safety profile.
Medication can be an important part of depression treatment, but some people do not experience enough improvement from medication alone.
TMS offers a non-drug treatment option for adults with treatment-resistant depression. It may be considered when previous medication treatment has not provided sufficient improvement.
TMS does not replace individualized psychiatric care. At Revitalizing Therapies, your care plan is guided by your diagnosis, treatment history, and clinical needs.
Revitalizing Therapies offers multiple advanced treatment options for people living with treatment-resistant mental health conditions.
TMS, ketamine therapy, and SPRAVATO® are different treatments. TMS is a device-based treatment. Ketamine therapy and SPRAVATO® involve medication-based approaches.
The right treatment option depends on your diagnosis, treatment history, goals, and clinical evaluation.
